Fire Golem - Final Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush April 2010
The Fire Golem started as part of my regular ZSketching exercises. It began as a quick ZSketch started from ZSpheres, but I enjoyed how it was coming along so much that I decided to make a finished piece out of it. Once I had the basic details sketched out in ZBrush, I crushed it down with Decimation master and kicked it out to Maya for resurfacing using NEX. I brought the final mesh back into ZBrush for sculpting and initial texture work and finalized the textures in Photoshop. I main aim was to capture that sense of elemental power along with the various materials found in and around a volcano; fresh lava (the glowy bits), recently cooled lava (the arms), obsidian (the head and upper torso) and pumice (the legs). Comments are very welcome on all aspects of the piece, thank you!
